Compose Bin

Making Your Own Compose Bin:

Making your own compose bin is easy, you can dream up for yourself any available containers in your backyard like: old wash tubs, old bath tubes, cut-in-half oil barrel, wood bin under trees etc. Then put old fallen leaves from your garden to fill up the bin.

But before filling up the compose bin with leaves, drill a few small holes on the side for air ventilation, just like humans; earthworm needs oxygen for breathing, it also need moisture around the body in order to exchange oxygen with the air. Occasionally spray a little water on top of the compose leaves but not too much to drown the earthworm, earthworm will drown, that is why during heavy rainfall, you usually see earthworm moving around the surface of the soil or on concrete in your driveway.

A wash tube size bin for commercial earthworm production and stock up to four thousand (4000) earthworms. Stocking it with five hundred (500) to one thousand (1,000) earthworms would be sufficient for your gardening purpose.

In the northern areas, some people keep their compose bin indoors during winter and out door in shaded areas during cool and warm weather.
